Australia’s best specialist intellectual property firm is celebrating a hat-trick in scoring the best client feedback across three years of Client Choice Awards.
Michael Buck IP, a firm of patent and trademark lawyers based in Sydney and Brisbane, was named winner for the third year running in the category of Best Specialist IP firm (less than $20m revenue) in the annual awards.
The Client Choice Awards are unique in that they are judged not by independent panels or industry experts – but, as the name suggests, by submissions from clients about the firms entering.
Principal and Patent Attorney Andy Mukherji said his team was “ecstatic to have won this category for the third year in a row”.
“Winning the Client Choice Awards is like one giant testimonial,” he said.
“Winning the Client Choice Awards is like one giant testimonial. Singing your own praises to your clients and prospects can only go so far. It has so much more authority and gravitas when they hear positive feedback from peers and other clients.”
This year, more than 15,000 pieces of feedback were submitted in a highly competitive field of 250 firms across Australia and New Zealand entering the awards. Mr Mukherji said his clients were just as pleased as his staff to see the firm succeed for the third year in a row.
“We have received overwhelming support via emails and social media reactions to our recent posts about our firm winning this award,” he said.
It is generally recognised the firms that stand out enough to become finalists or winners at the Client Choice Awards tend to do something different – be it related to billing, marketing, customer experience or service. Mr Mukherji said his firm’s secret ingredient was clear communication, which he said, “cannot be underestimated”.
“We have fostered strong relationships built on trust and our ability to listen. Our clients have told us that our reliability, attention to detail and an understanding from their perspective is very important to them,” he said.
“We proactively seek to stay informed about our client’s research and development and their business’ in general, with a view to identifying new opportunities to develop competitive advantage through IP protection.”
Mr Mukherji also pointed out that winning a Client Choice Award enhances the firm’s visibility in the IP and patent industry – encouraging top talent to see Michael Buck IP as a desirable place to work. This feeds back into continuing improvement whereby attracting the best talent enables the firm to service clients better.
It’s a cycle of success that may help explain why the firm has maintained a three-year hold on its sector’s award. Another year will tell whether the recipe ever gets old.
